Standards for the 21st century learner:

- Reading is consider a foundational skill for learning, personal growth and enjoyment;
- Students can find a lot of information in many formats (text, video, pictures, etc.) and they need to be able to select and evaluate them to use in an appropriately and effectively;
- Students need to develop skills to share information and knowledge with others;
- Schools libraries are essential to the development of learning skills since it provides equitable physical and intellectual access to the resources and tools required for learning in a warm, stimulating, and safe environment;
- Schools libraries need to provide instruction, learning strategies, and practice in using the essential learning skills need in 21st century;
- Learners use skills, resources and tools to:
  • Inquire, think critically and gain knowledge;
  • Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new situations, and create new knowledge;
  • Share knowledge and participate ettically and productively as members of our democratic society;
  • Pursue personal and aesthetic growth.
